ABOUT
Our Commitment
At Certus Card Group, sustainability is a core part of how we operate. We have invested more than £2 million to date in initiatives that reduce environmental impact, including lower-impact print processes, energy-efficiency improvements and waste reduction and recycling – and our investment continues to grow.
Sustainability at Certus is not a one-off initiative. It is a long-term commitment to making responsible decisions at every stage of card production, from design and material selection through to manufacturing, personalisation and delivery.
Sustainability in Practice
Sustainable Materials
As cards and carriers are at the core of our business, Certus takes steps to ensure each product is manufactured in the most sustainable way possible. As one of the first card manufacturers in Europe to adopt eco-PVC materials, we continue to invest in responsible alternatives to traditional plastics.
All Certus paperboard carriers can be produced using FSC®-certified and other controlled material. Where possible, we use water-based adhesives so products can be widely recycled through kerbside waste systems
Where applicable we work with customers to correctly apply FSC® and recycling marks, particularly on single-use products, to support clear consumer guidance and responsible disposal.
Where durability is essential, we encourage the use of substrates containing up to 100% recycled PVC or eco-degradable PVC as alternatives to virgin plastic, helping to reduce environmental impact without compromising performance.
Responsible Manufacturing Processes
Sustainability at Certus extends beyond materials to how our products are produced.
We use waterless lithographic printing processes, recognised within the industry for their efficiency and reduced environmental impact. This approach significantly reduces emissions of harmful compounds while maintaining high print quality and consistency.
Certus has also invested in systems that recover residual heat generated during machine operation. This recovered energy is reused to heat our buildings, reducing overall energy consumption and lowering heating requirements during colder months.
Waste is actively managed across our production sites. PVC production waste is repurposed into secondary products, while metal, cardboard and paper waste are recycled as standard, helping to minimise landfill use and maximise material reuse.
Fulfilment, packaging and waste reduction
Our end-to-end fulfilment services play an important role in reducing waste and inefficiency. By managing card manufacturing, personalisation, carrier production, and fulfilment within a single operation, we reduce handling, transportation and rework.
Quality controls, including camera verification and data checks, help ensure products are produced right the first time, minimising spoilage and reprints.
We also support efficient packaging and mailing formats, including paper-based carriers and one-piece mailers, helping customers reduce unnecessary components and packaging materials.
